Saffron, belonging to the Iridaceae family, is a plant with perennial roots, characterized by its unique bulb structure and stunning flowers.
The perennial root, which is a type of bulb, makes saffron a herbaceous perennial plant.
The bulb itself is spherical, slightly flattened, with a diameter of approximately 3 cm. It is covered by a layer of yellow-brown membrane. The plant's leaves sprout from the base of the bulb, with around 9 to 15 leaves per plant.
These leaves are long and strip-shaped, measuring about 15 cm in length, appearing gray-green, and less than 5 mm in width.
Saffron's most distinguishing feature lies in its flowers, which are not particularly tall and bloom at a rate of about two flowers per plant, yet they are incredibly beautiful. The flowers come in a range of colors, including light blue, white, and purple, and they emit a delightful fragrance.

For potted cultivation, you can use loose and well-draining soil, such as humus soil or pine needle soil. Spread a layer of soil at the bottom of the pot, filling it about halfway, and then place the bulb in an upright position before adding more soil.
After planting, simply water it and place it in a cool location. In due time, it will sprout. Once it has germinated, maintain it as per usual and anticipate its bloom.
