Daffodils have always captivated flower enthusiasts with their delicate fragrance and elegant beauty.
A simple pot of daffodils in a room, with its jasper-like leaves and snow-white crystalline flowers, has the power to induce relaxation and happiness.
1. Planting in soil
Planting daffodils in soil requires loose humus-rich earth. Before the actual planting, it's important to remove the dry bulb pieces from the daffodil head's exterior and scrape off the old roots.
Add humus to the pot, filling it up to about 2-3 centimeters from the edge. Afterward, gently press down the humus and position the daffodil bulbs in the pot. Cover the bulbs with a 1 cm layer of soil, then water thoroughly.
Place the pot in a cool indoor location. Over about 5 days, the bulbs will develop roots beneath the bulb disc. Once rooted, move the pot into sunlight for ongoing care.
When watering daffodils planted in soil, it's important to gauge moisture levels. Only water when the soil appears dry; avoid overwatering. Watering times are best in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid disrupting root growth.
2. Planting in sand
For sand planting, begin by placing a layer of sand about 2.5-3 cm deep in the pot. Remove the old stem pieces and roots from the daffodil head, and place it atop the layer of sand.
Cover the bulb with another 1 cm layer of fine sand, burying the lower stem slightly. Thoroughly water the setup and find a cool spot for the pot. After roughly a week, relocate the pot to a sunny spot until the daffodils bloom.
Daffodils cultivated using this method require daily watering to prevent dehydration and hindered root growth. Watering should be done in the morning and evening.
3. Planting in Water
Before starting hydroponic growth, it's essential to remove old stems and roots. Place the daffodil bulbs in shallow pots and secure them with pebbles. Add water to the pot, ensuring the bulb's base is submerged by 1-1.5 cm of water.
Keep the setup in a cool location until the bulb disc develops roots. Then, move the pots to a sunny spot until the flowers blossom. For hydroponic daffodils, changing the water daily is crucial. Regular water changes prevent root rot and maintain clean water, leading to healthier root growth.
Once successful cultivation is achieved, proper maintenance is essential. Firstly, maintaining suitable temperature and light conditions is vital. Daffodils thrive in sunlight but avoid exposing them to excessively high temperatures.
Optimal light intensity and temperature encourage controlled leaf growth, promoting healthy flower bud development.
During the late stages of daffodil care, maintain daytime temperatures between 12-18 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures between 8-10 degrees Celsius. Secondly, prioritize water quality.
Clean river or well water is the best choice. Daffodils are hardy plants and generally do not require additional nutrients. Aim to change the water every 2-3 days to maintain their vitality and beauty.
